This English carronade was built between the years 1776 & 1779 by the Carron Company, an ironworks in Falkirk, Scotland, from which its name is taken. It was the first barrel cast in a pig foundry, really squat and with short range but terribly effective during naval battles at short distances. Two English carronades were placed on the H.M.S. Victory’s fore deck.
