Description

The Reedy Blackbox 510R Pro Modified Capacitor Unit (Part No: AS27029) is an essential high-performance add-on for competition-level racing. While many ESCs include a basic capacitor, this "Pro Modified" unit is specifically engineered to handle the massive current ripples generated by high-power modified brushless motors, acting as a secondary power reservoir to stabilize voltage and protect your ESC from destructive spikes.

Key Features:

  • Voltage Ripple Suppression: Smooths out the high-frequency voltage fluctuations caused by rapid throttle transitions and braking, ensuring the ESC’s FETs (field-effect transistors) operate within their safe thermal and electrical limits.
  • Modified-Class Optimization: Specifically tuned for the high-amperage demands of modified-class racing ($3.5T$ to $9.5T$ motors), where standard capacitors may fail or overheat.
  • Reduced ESC Temperatures: By absorbing current "noise" and providing a steady buffer of power, this unit reduces the workload on the ESC's internal components, leading to lower overall operating temperatures.
  • Improved Throttle Consistency: Helps maintain a consistent voltage supply to the motor during peak demand, such as clearing large jumps or accelerating out of tight corners, resulting in a more linear and predictable throttle feel.
  • Factory-Assembled: Comes pre-built with high-strand count flexible wire leads, ready to be soldered directly to the ESC’s power inputs.

Technical Specifications:

Wire Type Heavy-duty, high-flex silicone lead
Application On-road and Off-road Modified Racing
Installation Requires Soldering

Expert Installation Tip:

The length of the capacitor wires significantly impacts its effectiveness. Pro-Tip: For maximum performance, keep the wires as short as possible when soldering them to the ESC’s positive (+) and negative (-) battery tabs. Long wires increase resistance and inductance, which can reduce the capacitor's ability to react instantly to voltage spikes.

Tech Note: If your vehicle stutters under hard acceleration or your ESC is hitting thermal shutdown earlier than expected, check your capacitor unit for damage. A "puffed" casing or a loose solder joint on the capacitor board is a sign that it is no longer absorbing spikes, which can lead to permanent ESC failure if not replaced.
