Oracover ORATEX Hotmelt Adhesive (100ml)
Description
Ensure a permanent, heat-activated bond for your scale aircraft with Oracover ORATEX Hotmelt Adhesive (100ml). Specifically formulated for use with ORATEX fabric coverings, this specialized adhesive acts as a "primer" or "bonding agent" for surfaces that are difficult to cover, such as end-grain wood, plywood, or pre-painted components. By applying a thin layer of Hotmelt Adhesive before covering, you significantly increase the peel strength and prevent the fabric from lifting during high-temperature shrinking or extreme flight maneuvers.
Key Features:
- Enhanced Fabric Adhesion: Dramatically improves the bond between ORATEX fabric and porous surfaces, ensuring the covering stays drum-tight over time.
- Heat-Activated Technology: Once dry to the touch, the adhesive remains dormant until heated with a covering iron, providing a "grab" that is far superior to standard film adhesives.
- Prevents Bubbling: Seals the wood grain to prevent outgassing, which is the primary cause of unsightly bubbles and wrinkles in finished covering jobs.
- Fuel & Heat Resistant: Once cured by heat, the bond is resistant to the oils and high temperatures common in glow, petrol, and turbine-powered models.
- Easy Application: Can be applied thinly with a brush or sponge; the 100ml bottle is sufficient for several standard-sized wing sets or a medium-scale fuselage.
Application Steps:
| Step | Action | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Prep | Sand surface to 400+ grit and remove all dust. | Ensures a smooth, debris-free bond. |
| 2. Apply | Brush a thin, even coat onto the airframe. | Priming the surface for the fabric. |
| 3. Dry | Wait approx. 30–60 minutes until clear/tack-free. | Prevents moisture entrapment under the fabric. |
| 4. Bond | Apply ORATEX with an iron at 100°C – 120°C. | Thermal activation of the adhesive layer. |
Pro-Builder Tip:
ORATEX Hotmelt Adhesive is especially critical for under-cambered wings (concave sections). Without this adhesive, the fabric tends to "bridge" and pull away from the ribs during the shrinking process. Applying Hotmelt to the bottom of the ribs ensures the fabric follows the curve perfectly and stays there permanently.
