A Showman's engine is a steam-powered road-going 'locomotive' designed to provide power and transport for a travelling funfair or circus. They were normally distinguished by the addition of a full-length canopy, a dynamo mounted in front of the chimney, and brightly coloured paintwork with ornate decorations. The dynamo was used to generate electricity to illuminate and power various fairground rides. Although originally the ride's motion was powered by an internal steam engine, some later rides were driven direct from the showman's engine via a belt drive.

The model is highly detailed, built of heavy-gauge steel and brass with a maroon painted brass boiler, water level gauge, steam whistle and safety valve. It comes complete with removable canopy, dynamo, LED lights and steering extension rod. The diecast flywheel runs a drive belt connected to the rear wheel and a separate drive belt to the dynamo. Exhaust steam is vented to the chimney for added realism. All you need is water!

If you are seeking a hobby, buying that special gift or adding to a unique collection then working steam engines give pleasure to young and old alike and will be treasured for life.

Mamod was founded in Birmingham, U.K. by Geoffrey Malins in the late 1930's. Mamod initially made model stationary live steam engines, progressing to road rollers, traction engines and roadsters over the years. Their reputation for excellence has been built up over 50 years. All models are tested to strict standards and safety valves control the working pressures of all units. Unlike Mamod steam engines of yester years which used methylated spirits as fuel, they now use solid fuel tablets which are much safer.
